Colin graduated in Law from the University of Tasmania and began his career practicing litigation in the Magistrates’ Courts in Hobart. In 1986, he moved to Burnie to join the respected firm of McLean Phillips and Bartlett, becoming a partner in July 1989. He remained with the firm until 2021 when the practice transitioned to a corporate structure, and served as Managing Director while continuing his litigation practice until September 2025 when he retired as Director. Colin continues to work as a Consultant on a casual basis.

With over four decades of experience, Colin has established himself as one of Tasmania’s most experienced practitioners in workers’ compensation law. His extensive litigation practice encompasses:

  • Motor vehicle accident claims, industrial accidents and workers’ compensation claims
  • Commercial disputes
  • General insurance claims
  • Veterans’ entitlements, discrimination and human rights cases
  • General court work

Colin’s expertise extends beyond private practice. He served as Deputy President of the Guardianship and Administration Board of Tasmania for 10 years, bringing his legal acumen to this important statutory role protecting vulnerable Tasmanians.

Colin is married with two sons and enjoys an active lifestyle that includes sailing, motorcycling, bushwalking, painting, sculpture, cooking, gardening, and various projects around the home. He particularly enjoys spending time with his granddaughter, who he notes is developing impressive negotiation skills of her own.
